Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 users<\/h2>\n

  1. Click the Start button<\/a> or press the Windows Key<\/a> and type gpedit.msc<\/b> in the search text field and press Enter<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  2. In the Local Group Policy Editor window, navigate to the following location:
    \nLocal Computer Policy <\/b>> Computer Configuration<\/b> > Administrative Templates<\/b>> Windows Components<\/b> > Windows Update<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  3. Double-click<\/a> on No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations<\/b> option.<\/li>\n
  4. In the windows that opens, select the circle next to Enabled<\/b> in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.<\/li>\n
  5. Click Apply<\/b>, then OK<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Tip:<\/span> To turn the automatic restart back on, follow the same steps, but select the Disabled option in Step 4.<\/p>\n

    Windows XP users<\/h2>\n

    1. Click the Start button<\/a>, then Run<\/b>.<\/li>\n
    2. In the field that appears, type regedit<\/b> to open the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n
    3. Navigate to the following Registry key:
      \nHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Windows\\WindowsUpdate\\AU<\/b><\/li>\n
    4. Find NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers<\/b> and change the DWord value to a 1<\/b>. This will disable the automatic restart after update.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Tip:<\/span> To turn the automatic restart back on, follow the same steps, but change the DWord value to a 0 in Step 4.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
